Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco (California)

One of the busiest and well known tourist attractions in the western United States, Fisherman's Wharf is best known for stands that serve fresh seafood, most notably Dungeness crab and clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls. Some of these stands go back for three generations of the same family ownership. The place gets its name from the early days of the 1800s when Italian immigrant fishermen came to San Francisco during the Gold Rush. Here, Achille Paladini found success wholesaling local fish as owner of the Paladini Fish Company, opening the road for more Italian immigrant fishermen. From then until the present day Fisherman's Wharf remained the home base of San Francisco's fishing fleet.
